Overview

How windshield chip repair works

A chip smaller than a quarter or a crack under six inches can usually be repaired instead of replaced. We clean the damaged area, inject an optically-clear resin under pressure to fill the break, then cure it with UV light so it bonds with the surrounding glass.

The repair won't make the chip invisible, but it stops it from spreading, restores most of the glass's structural strength, and keeps your factory seal intact — which means no removal, no re-installation risk, and a much lower cost than a full replacement.

Because most insurance policies waive the deductible for chip repair (it's cheaper for them than paying for a replacement later), many of our repairs cost the customer nothing out of pocket.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can any chip be repaired, or does it need replacement?

Chips smaller than a quarter and cracks under about six inches, away from the edge of the glass and outside the driver's direct line of sight, are usually repairable. Our tech will confirm on inspection.

Is chip repair really free?

In many cases, yes — most comprehensive insurance policies waive the deductible for chip repair since it's far cheaper than a full replacement claim. We'll check your coverage before we start.

Will the chip still be visible after repair?

A faint mark is usually still visible up close, but the repair stops the damage from spreading and restores most of the glass's strength.

How fast do I need to get it repaired?

As soon as possible. Chips spread from temperature changes, vibration, and moisture — a same-day repair is far more likely to succeed than waiting a few weeks.
